    2018 Utah Arts Festival: Fear No Film

    2018 is ripping off a patchwork of societal band aids, each placed over time across a range of incomplete issues. Fear No Film 2018 distinguishes these band aids through a lense of over 50 international short films, grouped thematically into categories of Self Identity, Self Comparison, Our Busy Pace, The Information Age, Opportunity Disparity, Differing Trajectories, and New Boundaries. Each program contains multiple award-winning short films and differing filmmaker styles.

    Screenings last about an hour inside the City Library Auditorium. All Screenings, except for kids’ films shown in the Kids Art Yard, can contain adult content. All are free to the public.

    Parking is free. This is on the SLCC campus just off I-15. It's the second building in from the road. After entering the building, take the elevator to the third floor and follow the signs to the southwest corner room.

    Becca Clason is a stop-motion animator and lettering artist. She creates her tactile letterforms by hand, using all kinds of materials: berries, flowers, yogurt, candy, push pins, coffee beans, nickels, sticks, sushi, concrete, you name it. She and Josh Clason create videos for social media and TV commercials for brands all over the world, such as Starbucks, American Express, Charles Schwab, Target, Lowe’s, Citibank, Nordstrom, Kellogg’s, General Mills, and Frito-Lay. She also created the annual lettering retreat and conference, Letter West, where lettering artists from all over the world gather in Utah to hone and explore their craft while taking workshops from and listening to some of the industry’s top talent.

    In her talk, “The Power of Craft”, Becca will discuss how she carved out a handcrafting career for herself as well as the physical and psychological benefits of making things by hand.

    Salt Lake Gaming Con is the 6th biggest gaming convention in the country. In the first year there were 15,000 gamers that attended over the three days making it one of the biggest first year gaming conventions ever!       If you want to play with your friends or make new friends, there are board games and video games of all types and skill levels for you. We have an extensive board game library of over 700 games, that you can check out and play during your stay at the convention. We also have a multi-platform free play video game zone to play friendlies with your buddies or show your competitive side to win bragging rights at the end of the day.


      Salt Lake Gaming Con is home to the most gaming tournaments in the region. There are over 40 tournaments for consoles, PC, board games, tabletop, and card games.We are also host to a number of big regional events including Fantasy Flight and Wizkids.

  • Reel Stories Film Premiere

    Spy Hop announces the world premiere of a collection of new documentary films from Utah teens.  For three weeks, these students are immersed in film, and each finish their own five minute documentary on subjects of their choice.

    REEL Stories, Spy Hop Productions longest running film class, opens up the world of filmmaking to anyone who is interested and passionate about telling their story.  For almost all of the students, this was their first experience making a film, and the final results are a tribute to their months of hard work.

    Join us for a free screening of these films. After each film there will be a short Q&A with the filmmaker. A reception will follow with some light refreshments. This is a free event and open to the public, but space is limited. Come hear what the next generation of filmmakers have to say, we promise you won’t be disappointed.

    This film tells the story of two female artists being creative and doing what they love to do. It sends a message to all young artists to never give up and to be proud of what you do.

    Hiding in the Open, Sam Resetarits | 18 | West High School
    Hiding in the Open recounts the events which took place throughout the investigation and discovery of an enlisted woman’s sexuality and the challenges that followed.
